>Over the past 575 million years of evolutionary history, neural complexity and brain size have increased in vertebrates and invertebrates alike
Uhh bros, what does this mean? Most claim evolution doesn't have a purpose, could its purpose be to create more intelligent organisms? Think about it, across every species to exist in the past 575 million years intelligence and neural complexity has had enduring positive selection. One would have to wonder if more intelligent organisms are objectively better, evolutionarily speaking that is. I previously believed that temperature had a relationship with organism's average intelligence, that's wrong. Humans genocided every species they could get their hands on once they evolved, perhaps every living thing benefits incrementally fitness-wise from increases in intelligence as well. Of course, the question is why has it taken so long to get here?
