The striking thing, to me, is that people in the 50-70 age range are relatively unaffected. These people aren't healthy in the US, they're all fairly overweight and lifetime smokers and drinkers, but they're still making out with a 99.5% survival rate.
So the average age of death is around life expectancy. What does this tell me? It isn't COVID causing deaths as much as old people dying and happening to have COVID at the same time, if that makes any sense.
