FAA wont fuck you (even if doing this would be against the law which its really not). they don't actively hunt people down. you could easily launch a huge rocket without even pinging on the FAAs give a shit about list. also how woudl then even catch you? doesnt make any sense

FAA doesn't have jurisdiction of anything above 60.000', thats the top altitude for controlled airspace. or its something about that, I forget exactly.

he didnt say orbit. orbit is a whole other thing. he just wants to launch something really high and have it come down. which is completely possible without anyone knowing and without getting in trouble. you can launch weather balloons all day and have no issues

What a stupid post. Obviously the projectile travels through a zone within the FAA's purview (American airspace) prior to entering one which is not (LEO). But even LEO has (I presume) norms and documentation, if not laws, about space junk. Imagine inadvertently damaging out some communications satellite. You would get into trouble!

You don't need to waste your time getting a formal degree if all you want to do is make a sounding rocket. You will however need a decent chunk of change even if you have access to a lathe and a fair bit more if you need to buy one.
