So many concepts existed in ancient times. For some strange reason, between around 0AD to the 16th century or so, very little progress was made (most of it was thanks to Indians, Chinese and Arabs (briefly - again, I wonder why)). Finally, people formalized and built upon these ideas that had been present in ancient times.
