if you are a complex organism that only reproduces (just make copies/clones) then you are very vulnerable to targeted parasites. Sexual reproduction is a way to have a species that breeds true enough to form homogeneous colonies and occupy a niche, forcing out competing complex organisms, while at the same time scrambling your DNA at each generation, making you much less vulnerable to highly targeted parasites.
