>>12237492I've also tutored kids, I'd say its less retardness and more people being afraid of math. My students were high schoolers but I didnt have a single one I'd describe as an actual idiot, but all of them had very similiar stories:
>do bad on some math thing or whatever in middle school or some shit>this convinces them that they are bad at math and math is hard and spooky, not for them.But it was never the case, as I broke down the problems to the smallest parts and asked them to solve it (literally breaking it down to basic bitch addition) the got it and did it multiple times for the entire problem, afterwards I showed them how to do the breakdown.
Remember one of my first students that at first said she was "afraid" of koordination systems but at the end of our first lecture I had her solve an equation with 2 unknown variables (dressed up to be about different coloured rocks and their value).
Most important part is to never ever ever let the student even suspect you think they're stupid. You may think it but never show it.
