As far as we can tell, the universe is infinite. As you go back in time towards the big bang, the universe becomes denser, but remains infinite all the way. Eventually it grows dense enough that you couldn't see through it. Eventually it gets dense enough that we can't tell what happened because we don't observe such density elsewhere in the universe, but presumably the universe was still infinite even then.
