I have glycerin and decanoic acid. Does this mean I can make a triglyceride at home? Just mix together 1 mol equiv of glycerin, 3 equiv of decanoic acid, dissolve in toluene and do a Dean-Stark esterification until no more water is collected?

you'll want an acid catalyst (a drop of conc h2so4) and might have trouble with full substitution, due to the bulk of decanol. But otherwise yes.

then theoretically, yeah. You might also have trouble with E2 elimination on the glycerin, so possibly add that dropwise over several hours into an excess of C10-ol
