Starting to struggle with transposition and other basic algebra now I started with calculus

Gonna sound dumb but I used to be pretty good at algebra like one of the best in my class (A level maths/BTEC) but now I fucking suck ever since we started calculus, I'm not horrible at calculus but my algebra skills have just deleted themselves anyone else experiences this or just me

For me calculus was where algebra really started to make sense. I'm about to /bragfag/ a little but all throughout my childhood I was shit at math, but in hs i took classes at a local college and ended up finishing hs having gotten A's in Calc 1-3 + DiffEq.

Before calculus, algebra was really boring and seemed like stupid brain puzzles rather than anything useful. When I took Calc 1 and realized how useful all the algebra was in solving more nuanced real world problems then the concepts really started to take hold. Since then it's just been second nature and I can't imagine forgetting very much of it. There are more obscure parts of algebra which i still forget and have to look up when I need them, but calc is where algebra starts to become ingrained in the mind.

Thats the problem I can see the importance of algebra now I am starting to use calculas in real life, things like largest area etc, but when my teacher just does some rearanging and transposing etc, my brain just malfunctions. Any tips to try get that /bragfag/ experiance

Always do the homeworks, even if they aren't required. The actual calculus part of most calc homework problems is easy, it's the algebra and critical thinking that get more difficult. A good textbook will give you increasingly hard homework problems which will make you sharpen your algebra skills while not leaving you in the dark. If you can't solve a problem, look up the solution and try to understand what the solution thought process is. Ask the professor for help if you can, they're normally always happy to help and can give a much better explanation in a 1-on-1 than in a large lecture room.

Most importantly, keep your head up about it. Like one of the replies says, literally everyone has to relearn algebra at some point in their education. It'll likely be the source of most of your problems missed on tests and it will suck, but you'll feel good soon enough when you're able to fly through monster equations because you kept improving your algebra skills.
