Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars are all visible right now over east coast of North America. At 6 am Venus will be visible about where Mars is right now.

I want to get into star gazing, what kind of telescope should I get? I want to be able to see Saturn's rings and Jupiter's spot. I see they range from $200 to $2,000 and I'm not sure where to begin.

Galileo could see the rings with a shitty refracting telescope. But a better bet is a reflector, because Galileo couldn't even tell they were rings, he saw them as blobs.

I'm getting into it, too. My planisphere arrived in the mail today, once I get to the point where I can recognize a significant number of constellations unaided I'm going to buy a pair of binoculars

I had one that could do the spot and the rings. I don't remember any details but the eye piece should be on the side, not at the end like in your pic.
It's a lot of work just to end up seeing little dots, there's nothing else cool that I ever saw with it.

That's a great way to drive miles out into the middle of nowhere and get fucked in the ass by strangers under the pretense of being able to look at cool shit in the sky.
t. I got assraped three years ago in northwest New Mexico when I went to an amateur astronomer's meetup; there were like seven other guys there and they passed me around like a fucktoy and I think it's what made me gay.
