It doesn't defend determinism. Determinism means you know what happens, but you simply cannot compute what happens in society or even somewhere where you cannot measure and you don't have means of computation.
How deterministic is force as root of atom is questionable, but I would say there are whole environments of interactions there from on which different results may apply.
