>>12216999>which cost? Care to explain? It's hard to put into words. It seems as though certain parts of your awareness are also selectively stripped over time, your thinking becomes slower and more clumsy, your ability to think in parallel / multitask is largely crippled, fluid intelligence is eliminated. After many years it seems to me the core of this is because it works by decoupling your mind from your body. If you aren't allowing the free flow of inputs from the body, other functions stop working. Your world becomes smaller, and smaller, until your mode of thought is more a matter of building and shifting a small window around, rather than, as I said, applying a more fluid intelligence. Everything is planned, everything is contrived, no change occurs inside or out unless you have chosen it.
I'm not sure if there's a hard mechanical basis for these costs, but that is what I have experienced. I think long term dissociation, being split into pieces internally, and building that level of control, causes the unusued mental pathways to atrophy and become pruned down. Perhaps it's increasing endogenous opioid secretion, which would have downstream effects of cholinergic systems.
