Maybe there's already mechanism for catalystic reaction of that kind on said planet.
If it got frozen fast, and soil holded a lot of carbon, maybe there's a crystalized CO2 as technology there turned liquid oxygen, or timespace anomaly and all carbon burned and remained under soil.
