So a Human brain gives us inteligence and conciusnes right? What if you only took a human brain and gave it al the necessary reseources it needs to be kept alive. Would that person be alive and know they are alive but are only a brain and nothing else?

Like an already grown adult who's experienced the real world? We'd safely pressure he keeps his memories but is trapped in his own personal hell. But like a fresh fetus brain with no sensory inputs or knowledge gained? Likely wouldn't know or understand a thing. I speculate it would wither and die from a lack of purpose/motivation/urge. It wouldn't know what to do and would just end up a useless clump of uncommunicating cells.

if you could reproduce the input it normally gets from its constituent parts (the brain is a cpu but its part of a much wider network) then it should be OK but if you can't then the excercise would be excruciating torture. Worst of all this WILL be attempted many many times in the course of history most likely on unwilling subjects

Physiologically speaking? Yes. Possible, given the right tech.
Psychologically? The 'mind' residing in that brain would soon go insane from both lack of sensory input, and inability to interact with the outside world.

Sensory Deprivation causes irreparable psychological damage if stretched over more than a few hours and probably catatonia if stretched even longer. The person you did this to probably wouldn't really be a person in a meaningful sense before long.

I have literally thought of this for years at my family Christmas dinner and people looked at me like i'm a schizo coming up with these thought experiments.

Same thought about brain wiring. Say we did the above experiment to pre-born babies, but the two brains had the exact same wiring and configurations, then would the have the same consciousness? Once again, my family give me weird looks when i ask this stuff. But these are good questions are they not?

They wouldn't have the same consciousness because their two consciousnesses wouldn't be a part of the same system. The components from which consciousness emerges from don't interact.

I wonder would it be like sitting in a sensory deprivation chamber? Or are the hallucinations from the chamber just a "malfunction" of your normal sensory organs? So you no longer have the sensory organs and it'd take you longer before you hallucinate.
