so, after reciting from memory, i check in the book if i forgot anything, if i did, i read everything i can and try to recite by memory until i get it right (writing once usually takes care of this). After i memorized it, i make sure i understood it but taking analyzing each sentence in my mind alone
Then, the crucial step, i find any person loafing around the city and engage a talk with them
I tell them what I just did (studying) and ask if they would be interested to talk about it. I then proceed to explain to them everything so they understand it, then i ask them to repeat what i said with their own words and ask what they think of it.
Elders sitting on benches and hobos are very good for this, women usually not unless they use glasses, i never tried with kids but with adolescents it works well, but all this varies with your region
