scientifically speaking, is it ok to date my cousin?

we are both well educated and above average attractiveness, so it's not like we don't have any other options, but we ended up falling in love with each other. is this a normal thing biologically? I know there is a slight increase in chance of genetic defect, but it's still pretty minor, right?
