Scientifically speaking, where did red, brown, and golden hair come from? Why do humans seem to fixate on blonde to almost white hair? The Gauls (Celts) had a high incidence of blonde hair naturally, but even they soaked it in lime juice to artificially lighten it.

It is tempting to think these arose in small regions in Europe more recently given their absence elsewhere, but is there any indication the rest of the world had and simply lost many of these recessive traits long ago?
