when i came out as an engineer to my parents they didn't take it too well. had to move out to live with my engineering partner. took years for my parents to accept me. still feel like a part of them doesn't. why?? why was i born a monster?

I just...told them about my interest in engineering one day and everything was fine. Feels good to have parents from the modern era. Maybe you can just keep your academic/professional orientation private until you've met another engineer that you like and want to bring onto your engineering team. Coming out is easier with a partner you love!

because being dishonest to your parents for the rest of your life because you think they will reject you, is worse than risking the engineering rejection (which probably, realistically isn't gonna happen)

You probably think that it's beautiful to be present in the inferno. It probably is. Sorrowfully difficult to appreciate while your skin and eyes are constantly melting off and regenerating or you fall into the lava pit only to have to wait a few aeons to slowly regenerate out of there, if you ever do at all.
