I think it’s just super magnets with coiled material to direct it and software/sensors to read it? No radioactive material necessary.

No. Just big magnets and sensors that detect how your own body is minutely deflecting the magnetic field.
CAT and PET scans need radioactive material though.

Superconductors are expensive yo. All that liquid helium just to keep shit cold enough. And helium isn't something that you can hold onto very well, it boils off and a lot of it gets lost.

You need a lab or workshop in a factory that can go to a really low temperature to properly align the coils’s magnetic field and supercool helium. It’s a sizable (few million) up front investment and you can built thousands of MRIs after that (each selling for millions or more).

I'm fairly certain this can destroy the machine. I think it dumps the coolant, causing all the stuff to heat rapidly and that probably fucks it up for good.

There is nothing radioactive here, just a RF field in a strong magnetic field with a gradient, plus sensitive sensors.
