This is a good question.
WTF even is space?
Is it a thing, or is it the absence of thing?
If space really does bend then it can be bent or influence/manipulated by outside forces. Which means it's not the absence of thing like classical physics would lead to believe.
The bending of space gives credence to aether/zeropoint/false vacuum theories, which are frowned upon as quack science by those in authority in science.
