I think so. My dad worked with a guy who had a Ph.D in physics from any ivy and the guy had extreme anger management problems. He would constantly scream at the top of his lungs at people and go absolutely ape shit. He literally had to go to finishing school it was so bad. He also really didn't seem that brilliant at all. I always wonder how somebody with sugh a short fuse got through a STEM Ph.D

An analysis prof I had in school had horrible ADD and kept changing topic in thr middle of lectures. She also would leave mid lecture for 20 mins to "make tea". She also use to get emotional about when I asked hee about office hours and break down I into some kind of sob story.

Yeah, It makes me wonder how these people ever made it through. On the other hand I have met some very intelligent people so go figure.

I agree. My grade 12 highschool teachers were great. I have only had one good professor. The others are shit cunts who just get through the lectures. They are not teachers. I normally just teach myself since they wont do it even though im paying out the ass.

The one good prof I have was an ex military dude, who's actually been in the workforce, got his PhD later in life. Everyone else just seems like a coddled jackass that's never really been in the "real world"

To be honest I wonder why don't they evaluate lecturers for their teaching skills. If you could make a whole class pass a standard test on a difficult subject you're one hell of a teacher, and certainly researching has nothing to do with it. If you want to do research then have fuckers do research instead of wasting time on lectures.

Honestly though, I know "real world" != 9am-5pm work - but I do know that in a lot of cases the 9am-5pm studying is easier and less stressful than the brutality of a PhD program.

Kinda get what you mean with lack of exposure to the real world though.

High school teachers deal with small compact classes and get to know students well. Professors deal with potentially hundreds in a single lecture for first and second years, and in the last two years they barely get to know you as students get split up and mangled as they pick different subjects - and all of this is just one year of students.
