Getting my degree in Electrical Engineering. Feeling kinda edgy so what kind of weapon engineering can I do with a degree in Electrical Engineering?

Radars, infrared tracking systems, avionics, communications, electronic warfare, and directed energy weapons are all fields in defense that need a fuckton of EEs. EW and lasers are growing especially rapidly at the moment.

EE here, 13 years in the defense industry (left last year).

If you mean actual weapons, then youre talking about directed energy weapons, mostly lasers with some nonetheless RF stuff. If you mean weapon "accessories", well, there are targeting systems, control systems, remote sensing systems, etc. There are TONS of opportunities for EEs in defense.

Depends on what you mean by "chill". A security clearance precludes a LOT of fun. No pot, in particular. Also, the pay is not incredible - civilians manufacturers have better profit margin and therefore usually better pay.

There are exactly three upsides to the defense industry.

1. The work is relatively stable with very low risk of outsourcing.

2. Patriotism, if that's your thing.

3. The cuttingest of cutting edge technologies with huge budgets... in some areas. In others we leverage the shit out of civilian industry and have pretty tight cost constraints.

That's it. If those aren't motivators for you, seek work elsewhere.

Well I did an internship at one of the biggest weapon manufacturers of the western world so, yes a simple degree is more then enough schooling, but there are really strict rules regarding screening. You can not go on a vacation to Asia or Australia, some aftican and Middle Eastern countries. You most be able to provide all places where you have been to vacation and where you stayed. You can not have 2 nationalities. You can not have any prior record with the police and you must be born in the same country. (this is in the a country in Europe, it may be different where you are from)

Lots of systems engineers (of which there are shitloads in defence) started out as electrical engineers. Apart from that, there's always work in C4I. There's lots of exciting stuff happening in specialist electrical roles too, like radars. There are lots of generalists floating around, at least in my country where basically every defence engineer is a contractor, so all that really matters is experience.

It's not so hard to understand. Some men come from troubled backgrounds where everyone treated them harshly, so they learned early on that a man who wants to be more than a cringing slave need a way to overcome a physically stronger or more heavily armed opponent. Other guys were just born with the desire to dominate and control their environment and one way to ensure dominance is to craft weaponry. Some men just plain like to fight. (I bet you don't know that most weapon smiths and gunslingers got their hard knocks in early in the bare knuckle scene.) Most weapon crafters/users are not suicidal. Suicidal people often fear to even see weapons because their bodies still have a self preservation mechanism telling them "don't do it, run program crippling fear.exe."

Weapons allow you to be more than just a pathetic slave. The only people who hate the right to keep and bear arms are elitists and or cowards.

Seconding the third point. I have some experience in both civilian and defence industries, and the best part of defence is that you get to build fancy toys will almost no restrictions.
Unless we're talking about operational costs (like a destroyer that is extremely inefficient fuel-wise) or you're trying to build some sci-fi shit, "prohibitive costs" is not an expression you'll see being used in defence. When designing something for civilian use, you have time and budget restraints AND you have to make sure that your product is also economically advantageous for the buyer (unless we're talking about luxury products like yachts and private jets). In defence? Nah, fuck that, just make sure your product works (even so, you'll often see governments paying millions for shit that literally doesn't work or doesn't get delivered).

Doesn't make people who design weapons any less scummy. Just think, you're 80 years old and on your deathbed, thinking about your life. Would you be proud of yourself if all you ever did was help bring more lethal machines of death and destruction into the world? Would you be OK with that being your legacy?

If it helped bring about the safety, security, and prosperity of my people, absolutely. Westerners are too quick to assume that the current world order they enjoy is self-sustaining. Without military superiority, the deterrent value against threats to that order disappears, and an actual great power conflict (not the small scale proxy shit that's been going on since 1945) becomes much more likely.
