in the midnight sun episode of the twlight zone a woman has a fever dream about the earth being knocked out of orbit and gradulally driffing closer towards the sun, when she wakes up the viewer is informed that it was only a dream and that the earth is in fact drifting away from the sun and everyone is freezing to death.
Could humanity survive this scenario by replacing the sun with nuclear energy and living in self sustainable underground bases if we had time to prepare and if so what sort of population of society would perseverse?
