is anyone else here stupid but still likes chemistry?
I'm a junior chemistry major. i like chemistry a lot and i like reactions like the grignard reaction, fischer esterification, suzuki coupling, etc. I made A+'s in organic chemistry I and II. I do home organic chemistry as a hobby, though I haven't yet done anything more advanced than fischer esterifications and bromination of alcohols.
but I would never be able to discover anything new. I struggle to understand research that the grad students are doing.
I still get internships and research positions though, because I think employers and professors value passion more than intelligence. It's rare to find someone who actually enjoys organic chemistry.
