The hope is that since we managed to not blow the world up as soon as we were able to, we're in the clear. Kinda like how during development a human is most likely to die as an infant, and if you make it past that you're in the clear for the most part. In this analogy you could look as nanotech and AI as a teen learning to drive, so there's another spike in probability of extinction but not as high as an infant.

everything in the green and yellow boxes is marginally better than trash. Someone's obviously shoehorning in their research, because azobenzene liquid crystal elastomer is fuckin macroscopic. I mean yeah azobenzene crystalline frameworks could potentially let you make controllable nanostructures, but light is noisy.
