>>12194007Human predictive models are bad, pretty much always. Its great that climate change spook is pushing towards more work on cool tech like nuclear fusion, solar, electric vehicles.. but do i think humanity would be doomed if that wasn't the case? Not so sure.
The current situation reminds me a oot of malthusian scare when people thought human population would keep growing exponentially forever and therefore the world was doomed (which was used in part to justify eugenic/nazi ideologies), what we know now that we have seen those charts evolve for first world countries, is that they were not exponentials, they were logistic curves, in fact many first world countries populations is now decreasing. Same shit goes for people who look at climate data "hokey stick" charts and extrapolate a forever growing exponential.
Exponentials like that are not really found in nature its usually logistic or bell-shaped curves, that only look like exponentials while youre on the beginning of the curve. So I believe it's likely that current estimates will be wrong (look at shit like the imf gdp estimates, they NEVER got it right), but its equally likely that temperatures will be higher than expected or lower. None of those options is scary to me, humans are extremely good at technology and adaptation, we survive in fucking africa and the north pole, if this becomes a huge problem we'll definitely figure out technologies to mitigate it, its not scary at all, its just doomers and misanthropes that believe in that shit. The other thing to remember is that things change all the time, temperature on earth has varied vastly in the past, sure species will go extinct as they always do, who gives a shit. Some humans have an irrational attachment to the status quo, thinking that the current situation can stay the same forever when it never has been in history. US and the EU didnt exist a couple hundred yeara ago and probably wont in a couple hundred years more, tough shit.
