Monasticism, in my lay understanding, is the admittance to not having a family so that one can "fast track" theosis. Basically, it's condensing your metaphysical impact so that when your lifetime ends you achieve theosis sooner rather than waiting around for your family until the ressurection. Plus asceticism likely increases the spiritual experience a person has in their lifetime, which might make it more interesting or better prepare that person for the otherworldly. It's not like they aren't doing anything desu, they're constantly doing good works and praying for us and the world.
She looks Roman Catholic, but I don't know how the orders (or jurisdictions in Orthodoxy) differentiate and it gets harder because female monasticism is not institutionalized like male monasticism. Her habit might indicate such things, but I am ignorant.
