Maths

I can't say I really understand. This thing just fucking boggles my mind. Mathematics (and formal sciences in general) cause such existential feelings. You know, just so... unearthly. Sometimes I'm utterly shocked how a random ape species, going through chaotic struggle of evolutionary arms race, could develop an understanding, and moreover, - an appreciation of abstract concepts. I mean how fucking low must the chance be? It literally has no evolutionary benefits. A species could be intelligent, capable of creating a complex society and sophisticated technology beyond fire and stone weapons, but why would it need an understanding of logic? Sometimes I imagine what could happen if not a random shift in DNA transmission... Just think about it - a society without any scientific development, any dreams of conquering the stars, any aspirations beyond the brutal existence in the natural world - pass your genes and die. And the most important part, it would make ten times more sense biology-wise than our current state of existence
