Eh, I'd rather lecture time be punctuated by questions. If you know it, it's a good reminder. If you don't, then it's a good reminder. It's always better to ask questions (in good faith, and those that are for clarification) than it is not to. Of course there's nuance here (you don't want people asking questions about how to multiply two matrices or w/e) but if a detail is fuzzy, you might as well take the plunder and ask.

Maybe this is just because I'm in math, where you have to learn to really swallow your pride and ask the damn question or suffer in ignorance and confusion.

Thank god I can choose an ML course given by the maths department at my uni instead of having to choose the one given by the CS one.

Physicist doing engineering PhD and lecturing here. In my department, the math classes for engineering students extraordinarily suck. They're neither interesting nor relevant for the most part.
Engineers aren't as stupid as /sci/ wants to make you believe, on the contrary. There are many people at least on par with physicists, they just lack proper guiding. The reason is that engineering departments care not at all about teaching, they're too busy getting easy grant money by lying about what they can do.

Not sure if relevant, but the math ML course I had was worth at least three CS ML courses plus two online courses.
