Microeconomics IS useful, though. Macroeconomics is mostly political trash, but microeconomics is definitely useful. How could anyone deny this? It's definitely useful to have that knowledge as you go through life.

Microeconomics is for the individual, and IS useful. Everyone should probably take the microeconomics 101 class. Economics as a major is complete garbage, though. You're literally a sociologist who has taken a calculus class and linear algebra class. Psychology is barely useful as it is, sociology even less so.
Everything from the subject worth knowing is in the freshman microeconomics class. The later classes simply go into detail using(simple) mathematics as to the "why", but it doesn't matter "why" unless you want to become an economist, which you shouldn't.

Macroeconomics is the most difficult field to learn and to produce high quality research. It doesn't surprise me that many of the less intelligent people in economics are jealous of macroeconomists and the value of their work. And so economists are less tunnel vision to new scenarios; and that will also regard newcomers to an IQ test.

I reckon though, that the top physicists and mathematicians will score higher than the top economists in the IQ test though. On average.
