While you might get the "omg I love science" types, most people find scientists and mathematicians nerds. You might be responsible for some tech or scientific innovation, but nobody will ever care unless it directly benefits them and even then they wont care who was responsible. But philosophers are highly respected for the new intellectually thoughtful ideas that can change the way you think about the world, and average people are even intimidated just to converse with them due to philosophers grasp of logic and argumentation skills. And when you consider how /fa/ /his/ is, it makes it almost laughable to compare the two.
