I don't think you have met many seriously stupid people. I have, unfortunately. I mean adults who struggle with conservation, cannot compute basic sums without their fingers, have not read a book or newspaper since High School, and have a vocabulary so limited that the word vocabulary is a struggle. When you have a conversation with a truly stupid person you will realise that the higher IQs of people on a science themed forum should be higher just from selection bias. Most idiots are not even aware of what IQ is.
You probably have never met true imbeciles because people segregate by wealth and intelligence. For instance at a meritocratic school system with any selection, some kids leave at 16, some at 18, and others after their bachelors. You will not know the 16 year old dropouts or how dumb many of them are. You only meet middle class, college educated people who are the demographic here and are generally above average...
