Adenine is paired with Thymine, Guanine is paired with Cytosine.
DNA is used to store the genetic information. It represent a more stable version than RNA (RNA is sensitive to hydrolysis).
The development of genetic polymer is still a matter of debate. We believe than DNA "developed" after RNA and was used to store the genetic information.
RNA can form more diverse secondary structures, and is also able to catalyze some reactions. We believe RNA was the first bio-polymer, developed initially by condensation ribo-nucleotide... until a first strand able to catalyze its templated replication appears.
So far, we don't know any short RNA strand able to catalyze its templated replications...
Some people believe another bio-polymer was developed before RNA (such as TNA), but I personally don't believe that...
