I've been reading about health and nutrition due to some issues I've been having over the past year. I'm just finishing the book in pic related, and it is one of the most fascinating things I've ever read.

Basically we discovered thiamine deficiency decades ago and how to easily cure it, then seemingly forgot about it as it shouldn't exist given modern nutrition. It turns out this doctor has spent his career researching thiamine and has shown that deficiency is still very common in our society and could be responsible for all sorts of conditions that are now usually diagnosed as bacterial or psychosomatic in nature.

The more I read things like this the more I realize how retarded and myopic modern medicine has become. I really believe that many modern illnesses, particularly psychiatric disorders like anxiety and depression that are far more common than in the past, are caused by nutrient deficiencies or imbalances. The majority of doctors don't know shit about nutrition, and it's incredibly rare for them to even test for basic deficiencies before prescribing people powerful psychiatric medications. It's a travesty.

I'm looking for more books on nutrition and physiology, especially ones relating to alcohol, the modern diet or basic nutrition in general. Scientific books please, not things like 'cure your aids with vitamin C' or other meme/fad type books.

Also general nutrition and illness discussion is welcome. Thanks.
