Because of science's success, people wanted to formalize social studies as a science, something to aspire. However, reductionist thinking may not mesh with studies of humans, although applications of methodologies such as data collection, modeling, and such may be helpful, these practices do not consistently or optimally encompass the field of human affairs. Not everything in that umbrella is equally rigorous, and unlike natural sciences, can't rely on first principles. Nor should it. If you use that type of thinking and narrow your vision you come to some pretty ridiculous conclusions.
So social science, is not science, they aren't really focused on doing experiments and collecting data. They might be better off doing more of that or giving up their designation as a science for their own benefit.
