Does it matter where you go to school for your undergraduate degree? Should I attend my states garbage state college or go to community college and attempt to transfer to a top university?

it does and it doesn't it's really complicated it does in a sense that prestigious undergrad schools are really hard to get into its not about the quality of education that makes their graduates so successful it's the process of selection of student so all the borderline genius students get picked and study and graduate their so you are probably going to get a similar career education and experience but if you want to prove to employers your special you could have a fancy university in your certificate signaling subtly that you are high iq and that you were always successful but if you are smart you will manage even if you go to a shitty public university you will manage to be successful but you have to prove it instead of having it in a fancy certificate

i think it matters in terms of the connections you make. additionally, more prestigious schools are harder. they pull this off by assigning you way more work than would be reasonable to pull off, and they expect you to complete it. it is learning to do this that is the most valuable thing they can give you. you're just not gonna learn it somewhere else.
