let's start with: loneliness and isolation are not synonymous terms. loneliness is a mental state where you're distressed or upset due to a perceived lack of social connection. isolation is being alone. it's like if you said "what are the effects of longterm irritation/wetness?" one describes a mental state and the other describes the environment that you can find yourself in. some people might get irritated by that experience but it's not inherent.
this is very important to distinguish to truly understand loneliness, because your immediate statement of:
>Actual loneliness, not the "I feel alone in a crowded room" nonsense,is nonsense because LONLINESS is a subjective experience.
>like going years without physically touching another human beingthis is isolation or being alone, which describes how you are and not how you feel
>and interacting with no one except the occasional cashier.and this is not true aloneness that you'd wanna see researched lol
but to summarize what we know about loneliness feelings of loneliness and feelings of lack of social connection are tied to worse health outcomes as severe as being on par with a pack a day smoker. which is severe, like years off your life type of mortality. it's also tied to worse health outcomes in general in terms of disease and wellness in that sort of staying healthy way.
