I don't enjoy my research anymore, bros.

I don't find joy in sitting in front of my computer for hours of end, writing code and making presentations and editing write-ups. I'm not making any difference in the world whatsoever, I'm turning funding dollars into work that gets shelved forever.

Part of me just wants to get a laid back 9-5 industry job. I loved the experience of doing research and the people I met and the things I learned, but I can't justify making fuckall money for the amount of mental effort I put in when I don't even enjoy it any more. I don't want to be churning out research anymore, I just want to be able to forget about work after 5pm and focus on my life and other hobbies

Any of you guys been through this? Did you end up ditching academia and going into industry, and if so, how do you feel about that choice now?
