Such a short exam is no platform for true intelligence. Merely training the primitive subconscious routines to regurgitate thousands upon tousands of by rote learning.

That's why you see inferior people doing well at them.

Make the problems harder and extend the exam to a week. Then we'll see the real purveyors of fine logic.

Are you stupid? These problems are extremely hard proof based problems that require creativity. Olympiad problems aren't like the computational problems, they usually require creativity which can not be acquired by simply doing a lot of problems. That is required by analyzing, deriving and pondering about problems and general mathematical maturity. You just sound like a salty idiot.

There is no denying it, the most "developed" countries in the world haven't ever been the top performing countries. Don't project your prejudice onto these people, they are all very intelligent and hard workers.

By the way this "short" test is long enough to be split into two sessions and spread between two days.

You can cope all you want but the vast majority of high IMO scorers go on to lead very mediocre lives.

And creativity? Not for many. It's recall. That's why China does better than its diaspora- they are worked harder, and that work comes in the form of low level memorization.

Also, a lot of olympic medalist happen to become brilliant mathematicians, and I don't think it's a coincidence.

It's probably a bit early to tell because the competition became global and relevant in recent decades but many mathletes went on to have important roles in academia with some even winning Fields Medals

so becoming a math professor and a top scorer in an international competition is mediocre? they are no euler or newton but they are still better at that subject than probably 99% of people in the world if not more.
