Maybe this is legal at Harvard but UC has a special rule against it. Blum broke it. Their chancellor broke it. Feinstein broke it.

They got rid of their old chancellor for mis using a campus gym btw.

Their kids are lazy and are used to having everything handed to them. Most of them aren't interested in attending university for anything other than the parties and the credential at the end.

The same thing happened earlier this year when a guy got the children of celebrities admitted to a number of schools, including UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles.

That guy went to jail for fraud and was arrested by the FBI.

Blum was also accused of illegal bidding tenders for UC Berkeley construction projects a few years ago. He owns a major contractor and UC Berkeley “selects” his bid despite the bid being uncompetitive. He made a cool 800 million premium on the project.

Nobody at Berkeley is an idiot. There is no alibi of “lololol we didn’t realize what we were doing lolololol”. Plus the school is run on tax receipts and receives a lot of federal/state tax money. It’s a public school.

Why would they? They can use their money and influence to get their kids into whatever university they want and then use some more to get all of their coursework done of them.
Read up on the 'Paige Sports Arena'. The short version is that a wealthy family donated money to the University of Missouri to have their basketball arena named after their daughter, Paige. She didn't attend school there. She wasn't interested in sports. It was a vanity thing. Paige graduated from USC but it came out that she didn't do any work at USC. She hired others, including her roommate, to do all of her coursework for her.
How can someone make it into and through a school like USC without doing one bit of work? Her family is part of the Walton family that started Wal-Mart. The naming of a sports arena after their daughter was a graduation present for sneaking her way through. USC pleaded ignorance and revoked her degree but they know rich kids like her are sleepwalking through their school. It's profitable to the school to pretend not to notice.

Nope. :-) the polling for the repeal of the CA proposition forbidding any race based admissions is high for rejecting the repeal.

less state tax money than one might think, about 10 years ago state taxpayer dollars were about 10% of the overall UC budget, essentially the same proportion as tuition/fees. The real money is federal research grants.

UC already declared that they are going to phase out standardized testing because POC can’t do well on them. Ok, so it’s going to be a lot of essay-heavy and grades-heavy admission going forward. If they want more blacks to get in, they should setup study halls to teach blacks how to do their homework.

All the initiative does is to ban any sort of race based admissions. So the end result was a lot of indians/Asians and some whites and some blacks. Anyone who studies and does well is basically guaranteed admissions now. If it gets repealed they get to introduce this idea of “crafting a class” which will inevitably be used to admit a lot of legacy/rich students who are rated high for “personality” like at Harvard (50% of their class is rich/legacy every year).

The CA Supreme Court cannot rule against a CA constitutional amendment. They only got rid of Prop 8 (banned gay marriage) by using the Federal courts (the State court had to uphold it as constitutional).

I doubt any Federal court will seriously vote to decide that “race based admissions is illegal” is unconstitutional. Affirmative action in other states /private institutions gets a pass because it assumes that minorities are uncompetitive otherwise. It’s very iffy and I think basically a violation of the equal protections clause. The court knows this. It would be one thing if the universities not practicing affirmative action were full of KKK members but they are not. They are full of Asians/immigrants/middle east people/Indians/international students/Europeans/etc.

Why can a kid from Bangladesh who barely speaks English and is dark skinned (and therefore discriminated against by the “racist society” as they claim) able to get 1550 on the SAT and a 3.9 gpa
But a black American who speaks fluent English from birth can’t break 1200 or 3.2?
