How long till humanity will abandon diesel fuel and switch to electric drives, especially in heavy duty machinery (e.g. used in mining, agriculture or container ships)?

Also do cetane boosting additives really work or it's just marketing because the engine will not work any better above the cetane number for which it was designed for?
