I want to design a simple ultralight aicraft from scratch.
i uderstand the aerodynamic part well enought but the structural side eludes me, how do designers calculate that their structure meet the desired strength ?
how do they know the correct mesure?

where can i learn about it?

i have no idea but a solar powered aircraft that is light enough to be able to constantly run off of solar power would be amazing. i mean something that can get enough energy to still fly during night time and can stay in the air until its light again

Just about everything on an airplane can be treated as a beam. Understand the material properties of beams and you will have a lot of luck. The math is actually surprisingly easy.
The trick you use is calculating the maximum stress and the location of maximum stress when the beam is under certain loading conditions (Lift, drag, its own weight). Then you just get a material that doesnt yield at that level of stress with a fairly big margin (30%) or you redesign the wing if that isnt possible.
Just look up beam theory and read the wikipedia and youll be well on your way.

An aerospace engineering degree is roughly split three ways between aerodynamics, propulsion (thermodynamics etc.) and structural strength analysis.

Dunno how much engineering background you know, OP. I've personally used Airframe Structural Design (first Google result for the textbook). Understanding Aircraft Structures gives a more general introduction.

Just be sure to give everything a big enough factor of safety so you don't end up killing yourself.

Have you read stick and rudder by any chance anon? it doesn't teach you how to build a plane but it covers pretty well alot of things about how a airplane works and how it creates lift as well as things like angle of attack, buoyancy etc. you gotta be aware about all those things and fully understand them when you build a plane and especially when you fly one. Try looking into dedicated forums on the webs and stay safe flying that thing once you build it anon.

i did read about airplan aero dynamic, i'm pretty confident about my skills.
i made many RC from scratch and they flew well.

but structure isn't my strong suite and i have to rely 100% on CAD results.
i don't know how accurate Solidworks FEA is.

Alright then those are great news, i cant help you with anything else honestly you probably know more than me anyway either way you will be flying those ultralight planes in very fair conditions probably at sub 50 knots so the simulations will probably be reliable, maybe take inspiration from planes that don't require a license to fly. Anyway this probably isn't the best spot to ask for stuff like this. I could be full of shit on this topic as far as im aware lol.

I think i’ll just get myself Ansys and use it to confirm Solidworks FEA results

Ansys is prtty much the gold standard of FEA i can’t go wrong with it

Problem is last time i trsted it it was pretty complex
