Can toxoplasmosis be avoided if you get a cat?

Having an indoor cat reduces the risk of the cat being infected and thus reduces the owners risk of infection. Owners should also handwash thoroughly for at least 20 seconds whenever handling cat litter or faecal matter as oocysts are spread via facael matter. i cant think of any other measure besides good hygiene practices to limit the risk.

Cats get toxo when they eat birds or other small animals.

Don't let your cat eat birds and you'll be fine.
Indoor cats don't get toxoplasmosis unless you have mice in your house..

Even if you're cat does get it, proper sanitary procedures will prevent infection (don't let your cat jump up on a table or countertop, don't touch your face after petting the cat, don't kiss your cat).

If you live in France though, just never touch cats, because the parasite is pretty fucking established there.

This, it's debatable if toxoplasmosis is a negative thing. It's basically a permanent mild stimulant, people with toxoplasmosis have higher extracellular dopamine levels and studies confirm they act similar to people on stimulants - more likely to start their own business, take risks, etc.
People with Rh- blood type and toxoplasmosis infection score higher on IQ tests.
