I think the "smart handsome young man" thing is much grosser than the "nerd" thing.

like, if you're good at science, there's two ways you can be perceived.

sometimes, you get perceived as a "Smart handsome successful hard-working young man". like "look at that smart boy, he's studying hard and cracking the books to get himself a good future!"

other times, you can be perceived as a nerd. like, "that weird nerd does nothing but read boring math textbooks all day, get a life"

i'd rather be perceived as the 2nd type.

the reason is because the "Smart handsome young man" seems to be impressing others and not pursuing these things for the sake of it, for himself. whereas the nerd is reading math textbooks all day because that's what he likes to do.
