What are the best countries outside USA for STEM graduate school? I'm looking at Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland (Zurich), and Spain right now. I'd consider Germany but I don't know German and German unis don't cater to English speakers

Depends on the field. I know TU Delft in the Netherlands is pretty good for my field (aero).

Robotics, maybe aero robotics

I actually did aerospace undergrad, TU Delft is one of my top choices rn. UoToronto also looks really good

If you’re in aero and looking to avoid the US entirely, I probably wouldn’t suggest Toronto. As far as I know, many (if not most) Canadian aerospace grads end up coming south of the border for better wages and more opportunities to work on cutting edge hardware. On the other hand, if you’re just not wanting to pay for American grad school, Toronto would put you close to the country with the biggest aerospace industry at a much more reasonable price.

Delft is one of the few non American universities that I see mentioned often in the context of aerospace, so you probably can’t go wrong there. There are certainly more schools out there, but Delft seems to be one of the few that gets enough international publicity to have name recognition in America.

I want to shift to robotics though, didn't really like the "aero" stuff but I did a lot of research and extracurriculars with drones and liked the autonomous component. Also into the space side as well. Utoronto has this sustainable aircraft research group that I love to be a part of as well

Also, I'm applying outside of USA to move out, I don't like this country for a myriad of reasons.

I don’t have too much experience with robotics, so I can’t really speak to any experiences with that specific sub field. However, if you’re trying to get out of the US while working in a STEM field, Canada likely isn’t gonna be the way to go. It’s too economically bound to America, especially when it comes to tech. Europe is gonna be a lot more of an independent market.

I know I get shit on, but US unis are kind of an meme here in Germany, it's not unusual that students who barely pass go to a US uni for a year, party all day and write top 5% grades.

If you want to live out the equivalent of getting your asshole penetrated with a steelbar, go to Germany.

I'm applying to Zurich just to see if I get in. I'd apply to Germany but I don't know a single word of German and apparently you need to be B2/C1 level of fluent to get in... not possible to do that in a few months lol

In Italy I'm kooking at the polytechnic school in Milan and Spain the polytechnic school in Catalonia (UPC). Those seem pretty good or am I mistaken? Also UDelft is pretty good for what I want to do

Fuck, I went to a top 10 engineering school in the USA but I still think I might get exposed going to a European uni lol. Lots of brainlets in my classes and p sure my gpa was inflafted

If you want to go into academia attending a prestigious university (i.e. one high in the rankings) such as TU Delft is a pretty good idea. On the other hand NL is expensive for foreign students I believe.

I am actually Dutch and did a BSc Computer Science and Engineering at TU Delft. I would go to a school like ETH Zurich in hindsight because I honestly have the feeling that our education was way too superficial. I taught myself more than I learned. But I never wanted to go into academia so I don't know how good my degree is for that.

I also speak Spanish at a good level, I'm actually studying it as a hobby right now, trying to get to B1

don't sweat it
1. you went to a top ten uni and that is what matters the most
2. us uni are geared more towards analytical thinking as well as networking where other nations like germany have to cope by being walking human calculators
There's a reason why are shit ton of professors at US universities are foreigners, and that's because any US PhD knows their worth and go into industry to make the big $$$.

I don't understand if the whole application process is a formality or not, because there's not a closed number of positions as far as i understand, and dutch students automatically get accepted.
