What creates the virtual space in which we perceive our visual field? As you can notice, it looks as if our visual feedback comes from a screen that is placed in front of us. if we cross eyes inwards it looks like the visual field becomes narrow and if we cross them outwards, it seems it becomes wider, however it seems that the "virtual screen" is still placed in front of us however. You can push your eyeball with your finger to twist the angle for that eye and it still will seem the image is in front of us, although blended.
There are animals that have eyes to the sides, and some insects have multiple sets of eyes all around their head. Does this mean the image for these animals still look like a flat screen in front of them or do they perceive their vision from the inside of a sphere, or multiple spheres? What creates this space?
