Books for math and physics

I'm currently in the army, so I don't have much time to actually study for a degree.
What are okay books for gaining knowledge in academic mathematics/physics?
I'm not sure if I want to study these, I want to know if I can understand them.

Lehmann's Algebra and Lehmann's Analytic Geometry should be a fine starting point.

Well, that is true. The thing is, I liked maths (about highschool-college level), and I'm pretty good at it. But there is no guarantee I'll even like it in academic level, you know?

I think you should look through several types of books: a popsci book about mathematical concepts like (co)homology, schemes, etc., an undergrad book (say, Gallian's algebra), and a more serious book about the same subject (say Lang or Bourbaki). This will allow you to get a bird's eye view of some concepts as well as prepare you for different styles of books (rare friendly introductions and common dry definition-lemma-theorem books).

Even this guy >>12152260 is suggesting that you start with algebra, which is typically a course people take after having gained a little bit of mathematical maturity through single/multi-variable calculus and linear algebra. Algebra is great, and you could probably learn it with enough dry-heaving and pain, but I think that this is not the best way to start.

Since you like physics, try Leonard Susskind's "Theoretical Minimum." It's not as rigorous as, say, a three semester college sequence in elementary physics, but it's a fantastic way to start developing competence with thinking about physics. Moreover, you'll get a high level summary of calculus, which is great, because you're gonna learn all of it eventually.

If you wanna just jump right into undergrad level stuff, then take single variable calc and physics one at the same time from MIT OCW SC (or if you already know that shit, then just adjust to your level). Amazing lectures + problem sets/exams. Also Paul's notes are good for calc I-III and diff eq.

Start with precalculus, Stewart is nice.

The thing about math is you need to exercise. You must understand the fundamental arithmetic and algebra properties and practice lots to do mental arithmetics, afterwards you need to practice whatever formulas or theorems to be able to actually use them in a situation, because "making sense" of it is not enough.
