It's hard to say. For now I divide non-Npcs into two categories. Those doers who march to the beat of their own drum, and thinkers/conscientious people who do not conform for the sake of conformity. This is different from anti-conformists like hipsters. Sometimes its better to conform, like taking a shower instead of being smelly and getting infected with parasites. But there is a process behind it. You are evolving, and can think critically to break out of an mold society and culture shapes you into, or even a break a mold you build yourself into.
Npc was banned on twitter on grounds of being dehumanizing language, which it can be but I think the concept is interesting. Having the potential to get people to look at themselves and the groups they partake in, to do a bit of self examination.
