>>12181217>very stupid question but is DID real?Yep. Dissociation and hard compartmentalization are real, including the formation of alters stunted at a certain point in a person's development.
>Any way to induce it?Yes, kind of. Some research indicates you need severe trauma and mental conflict before age 3 to 6 to sort of prime the mind for a dissociative coping strategy, and bias all defense mechanisms towards just shunting unpleasant stimuli into alters that can handle it.. Some research indicates older people with the right predispostion can acquire a limited form of DID. I'm skeptical though, because after the formation of personality I imagine you would need long term isolation to stop your environment from forcibly recreating the identity you tried to escape. The formation of a stable shell persponality requires being closed off enough that outside demands can't threaten it or its lack of knowledge, it can't be made to realize the true extent of its deficits. If it is, the only option is to switch around mentally constantly in accordance with demand, which in an otherwise intact person, would result in self extinction. The alter would probably be absorbed back into the core self.
>I really need to wipe some stuff from my memoryNot possible and not really effective. There are multiple types of memory, one of which is stored in the "body", close to motor output. If you wipe your memory you will still be miserable, if not at first, then eventually. You just won't understand why. Though temporarily it could be a good coping or transitionary mechanism, if you wanted to get some baggage out of the way and start anew. Essentially, all you have to do is learn how memory is stored for you. Then draw the memory in mind, break it down to its underlying associations, and recursively strip them out until there is nothing left to trigger the conscious recollection. Repeat. It's not permanent however, you should pursue ECT for that.
