people get enough fluoride from food and drink and toothpaste. Putting it in water is both expensive, wasteful, and has the potential to over dose some people. Over dosing people leads to, ironically, tooth decay.

It was added to the water supply as a "tooth fortifier" back in the days when coke still had cocaine in it and every 12 year old used to smoke. People didn't think too much of it until we figured out it's a literal neurotoxin in the body and only benefits your teeth.
